The state government has launched a crucial initiative to support financially weak street hawkers and vendors in the Howrah Municipal Corporation area. Those engaged in street businesses without an original trade license and resorting to high-interest loans can now avail a hassle-free loan of Rs 10,000 to boost their businesses.
Through local bank branches, the state government will provide this one-time business loan to eligible hawkers, aiming to empower them economically. The loan repayment period is set at one year, with hawkers required to repay the loan amount of Rs 10,000 and an additional Rs 700 in interest, totaling Rs 10,700.
The initiative, launched on Monday, will assist hawkers in repaying the loan through easy monthly installments. This financial aid aims to uplift their livelihoods and encourage entrepreneurship among those facing financial challenges.
Additionally, a survey was conducted at Kalibabur market in Howrah Municipality to identify and support street vendors without trade licenses. The ongoing process of creating a comprehensive list of such hawkers will help bring them under the purview of this beneficial scheme.
